Technology is constantly advancing and taking on new forms each year. From the invention of the wheel to self-driving cars, technology has become essential in our everyday lives.

At Ready4S, we can’t help but feel excited to see the growth and expansion of new inventions and technologies year after year, which has us wondering:  what are the technology trends for 2022?

Cloud Computing

Since the introduction of the cloud, users have been able to backlog and share valuable data such as pictures and documents, increasing the direct storage capacity on any device.

Whether for business or personal use, the cloud has accelerated its journey to support new developments and build resilience for the future. In 2022, the cloud will shift its focus from migration to modernization.

One major expansion of cloud computing will be containers, which provide a portable and accessible way to install and manage virtual computing applications within the cloud.

Rather than being locked into a single-cloud provider platform, a container-based approach allows users to release information across a multi-cloud or hybrid cloud system.

This saves businesses time and man-hours by reducing the number of applications required to share the workload amongst different organizations.

For example, Ready4S worked with an American-British company that is one of the world’s largest financial market data and infrastructure providers.

The intention was to create a web portal with serverless architecture to allow all potential financial investors to quickly find reports, analyses, or data in one place.  The platform is a solution for all individuals and institutions that want to analyze a specific investment.

Regarding the rapidly accelerating world of applications, Ready4S has worked with a reputable Swiss healthcare company that operates worldwide.

The scope of the project involved designing and developing an iOS mobile application for oncologists. To ensure the app ran smoothly, IaC was used to connect the app to a specific API that connects to the database of all physicians.

Datafication, Digitization, and the Metaverse

Throughout 2020 and 2021, many people found themselves working from home. This prompted the virtualization of offices and workplaces with the expansion of popular companies like Zoom and Skype, allowing individuals to create and collaborate from the comfort of their homes.

In 2022, the concept of virtual meetings will transform into the ‘metaverse.’ Created by Mark Zuckerberg, the inventor of Facebook; the metaverse is a digital world that exists parallel to the physical world we live in.

Within the metaverse, users can experience and carry out several functions in their everyday lives, including work, play, and socialization. As digitization increases, the metaverse will adapt and simulate the real world with rising accuracy, creating immersive, realistic experiences within the digital space.

This concept is similar to what one experiences through virtual reality headsets. Through the metaverse, a range of new devices will be implemented to improve virtual realities to offer tangible feedback, including smells.

The development of the “internet of senses” is predicted to alter virtual experiences that will become indistinguishable from reality by 2030.

Artificial Intelligence

The creation of smartphones, smart TVs, and self-checkouts are just a tiny sample of what artificial intelligence is capable of. AI has changed how we make purchases, socialize, work, and drive.

Doctors can perform surgeries with robotic assistance, and planes learn to fly themselves. AI is a constantly evolving trend and has been revolutionary in technology.

In 2022, the implementation of 5G is predicted to expand, providing fast internet speeds to nearly every corner of the earth, giving access to those who have yet to see its full potential.

Another driving force in AI is climate change and the educational space. This includes weather predictions weeks in advance, faster alert systems, and more accurate forecasts.

In regards to education, virtual classrooms are predicted to expand and create easily accessible books, tools, and courses in any subject imaginable.

Through language modeling, AI is trending to be the most transformative technology humanity has ever developed.

This process allows machines to understand and communicate with us in the languages we know. Natural, human languages can be turned into computer code that can run programs and applications, creating limitless possibilities for the future.

Sustainable Energy Solutions

Finding sustainable energy solutions requires us to create new technology. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the only energy source that saw an increase in usage was renewable energy.

In the first ten weeks of lockdown, the US saw a 40% increase in renewable energy usage. As industries shut down worldwide, this led individuals to stay home, decreasing non-renewable energy usage and an eight percent reduction in emissions overall.

This has led to the prediction that renewable energy resources will significantly expand in the next few years.

In 2020, the International Energy Agency (IEA) estimated that more than 40% of renewable energy was generated and consumed compared to the previous year. Trends suggest this growth will continue well past 2022.

The cost of generating renewable energy fell as low as 7% in some areas, including onshore and offshore wind, solar, and tidal.

Several countries and businesses that want to hit specific emission targets or desire to go carbon neutral will see the most significant impact from these changes.

Rising energy sources such as liquid hydrogen, biofuels, and nuclear fusion are becoming more practical, although feeling its full effects may be delayed until after 2022.

The automotive industry has grown immensely in such a short amount of time. We’ve seen the introduction of electric vehicles and self-driving cars over the past few years through companies like Google and Tesla.

Automakers continue to install more digital technology into their cars, such as touch screens, remote start, and emergency alert capabilities.

There is fierce competition within the development of vehicles in 2022 to create digital and electronic operating systems. These new technologies allow operating systems to power and drive new, innovative, zero-emission cars, complete with digital technology.

The future of the automotive industry aims to provide vehicles with a safe, comfortable, and convenient multi-media experience. On-demand features would allow operators to surf the web while in the car.

Connected cars can communicate with various other systems outside of their local network. Vehicles can share internet access and data with any device inside or outside the vehicle.

This includes sending remote diagnostics, vehicle maintenance reports, access to 4G and 5G networks, Wi-Fi hotspots, and turn-by-turn directions.

Connected car technology is expected to grow with lightning speed in 2022 using predictive intelligence and maintenance technology.

The Use of Smart Spaces

We’ve already been introduced to home devices through Amazon’s Alexa and Google Home. New developments in technology have given us the ability to preheat the oven, turn on lights, change the thermostat, and unlock doors all from our cell phones.

In 2022, homes and buildings will become even better assistants to help with basic human necessities, benefiting the elderly community the most.

Through sensors, caretakers will be notified quicker should any emergency arise. This technology is not limited to the monitoring of vital signs.

They are learning models trained within the cloud and can even detect if a person has used the restroom and hasn’t returned. In this instance, the system will notify the caretaker on duty to act, preventing potential injuries or medical emergencies.

These human responses are made possible by smart spaces. Humans are known to respond intrinsically when presently aware of the need.

As a society, we are slowly reaching a point where concepts such as ambient computing, edge processing, and smart home devices will have a bigger, positive impact than ever before.

With the implementation of these devices, we can create a new class of homes for the aging population.
